Looking for opinions on this Elon Musk and Paul Graham thread on Tw: Are we all over focused on software and forgetting about hardware?
This post is mostly for the tech / science entrepreneurs, but of course anyone can join the discussion. This is the thread: https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1645115171629572098My take on this,The space is over saturated with SaaS, and with the increase of no-code tools and AI, even more people are trying to create and deliver software (the already low hanging fruit now its on the floor, anyone can grab it). The problem I see here is the majority of this software will be obsolete or highly replaceable once we get to higher AI stage (not so far).On the contrary, hardware startups are much rare and extremely more difficult to replace by AI (at least in the following 5 years). And, of course, a lot harder to get into since you need to know many more fields. The obvious answer, like many pointed in Tw is (not my words):- Software is relatively less capital intensive to build and ~infinitely scalable for cheap. It's ideal for the equity funding model.- Going into hardware and heavy industry is stepping into a patent and regulatory minefield. So, I know building hardware is harder than building software, but also is extremely less competitive and there may be a lot of opportunities in the following years.
