My client is selling his business and providing me with a unique opportunity, do I take it?
So for the last few months, one of my clients has been hinting at selling his automotive business and moving into something less labor-intensive as he's getting older and a recent injury has caused him to slow down. He's not necessarily a one-man shop but he likes to stay involved and rather active from what he's told me as he's a big believer in "if you want something done right you have to do it yourself". With that being said despite his slowdown due to injuries, things have been moving pretty well for him from a business standpoint as he doubled his revenues from the previous year gaining the interest of potential buyers for his shop which is when he approached me about a potential offer for his company. The conversation opened up when he asked me about what I see for the future of his company after working together for about two years. I told him that his business has exceeded many other automotive companies I've worked with in the past and from an SEO standpoint, I could see him really continuing to grow and eventually even opening up more locations in the surrounding areas. He didn't say anything at first until eventually said "Well what would you think about owning it?" I guess this idea wasn't out of the blue because we had discussed potential future plans in which I told him I would love to start opening up more businesses of my own; however, I know absolutely nothing about cars, and like I said I'm really just their SEO guy but me and the owner have a solid relationship. He then went on to say he would give me a discounted price from what he was offering the others solely because he felt I would carry on his vision and that he would help me get on my feet to start things off.I'm not comfortable with cars at all, shoot I can't even change my own oil all I know are computers mainly SEO, but it's a profitable business that he's willing to help me with. Should I consider this offer? I also don't think I would even have time to put nearly as much into it as he did within the last few years. Any thoughts or advice would be great.
